Families, neighbours and visitors from around the world flocked to Seacroft for a heartwarming day of celebration at Chapel FM Arts Centre. The day kicked off with a vibrant mix of music, food, live radio and giant puppets brought the community together in an unforgettable show of unity.

Dubbed Seacroft Goes Global, the free event offered an eclectic programme packed with creativity and culture. From zine-making and story-sharing to car boot bargains and hands-on crafts, the event gave people of all ages a chance to get involved, express themselves and connect across cultures.

Live broadcasts from East Leeds Community Radio filled the air with energy, while the smell of international cuisine wafted through the building. Giant puppets towered over guests, children explored arts activities, and visitors swapped stories that spanned continents.

Hosted as part of Chapel FM’s ambitious three-year “Home From Home” project, the event aimed to celebrate global connections while showcasing the creative spirit that thrives in East Leeds. The project explores what it means to belong, inviting participants to reflect on home, heritage and shared experience.

Guests had the chance to explore the nooks and crannies of Chapel FM’s unique venue, meet artists, writers and broadcasters, and discover how they could get involved in a wide range of creative programmes offered year-round.

Although the event was free, those who reserved in advance were entered into a raffle to win special prizes themed around global friendship and cultural exchange.

With laughter, learning and music echoing through the halls, Seacroft Goes Global lived up to its name, transforming one corner of East Leeds into a buzzing crossroads of cultures, creativity and community.

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.
