A major investment to strengthen Seacroft’s water network is now under way, with Yorkshire Water starting a £1.1 million programme to replace ageing pipes across the Boggart Hill area.

Work began on Monday April 27 and will see around 1.9 kilometres of older water mains removed and replaced with modern plastic pipes. The upgrade covers parts of Barncroft Road, Barncroft Drive and Kentmere Avenue and is designed to improve reliability for households, cut the chances of future bursts, and reduce leakage in the local network.

The project is being delivered by partners at O’Connor Utilities, who expect to complete the improvements by the end of the year. Residents in the area have already been contacted with details of what to expect during the work.

Project manager Victoria Corbett said the investment will help provide a more dependable supply for the community and reduce disruption in the long term.

The scheme forms part of a wider programme across Yorkshire. The company plans to renew around 1,000 kilometres of clean water mains by 2030, supported by a £406 million regional investment. Other work in Leeds includes mains upgrades in the Cross Green and Richmond Hill areas, along with recently completed improvements on another part of Seacroft’s network.

This Seacroft project also sits within an £8.3 billion plan to modernise water infrastructure throughout the region over the coming years.
