Janine GriffithsA Seacroft care home has raised £1,308 for four causes after bringing residents, local businesses and the wider community together.
Seacroft Green ran its month-long ‘Love in The Community’ campaign throughout July as part of its Pride Month activities.
The campaign included a series of fundraising events, with money raised for three charities and food collected for a local food bank.
Activities at the care home included raffles, tombolas and pop-up shops.
People were also invited to take part in arts and crafts sessions and karaoke.
The money raised by residents, staff, local businesses and members of the community has now been donated to several causes.
These include The Seacroft Social Services Emergency Fund, LGBTQ+ charity Out Together and children’s bed charity Zarach.
Food donations collected during the campaign were also given to St Richard’s Church food bank.
Sam Enright, Wellbeing Team Lead at Seacroft Green, said the campaign showed how care homes could become more involved in their communities.
“Leeds Pride represents so much more than colourful celebrations and drag performers; it is about love, acceptance, diversity, belonging and togetherness. This campaign demonstrated that care homes can play a much bigger role within their local communities.
“By opening our doors, celebrating diversity and encouraging collaboration, we created opportunities for residents to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds while supporting causes that genuinely improve lives.”
Mar Bitor, Home Manager at Seacroft Green, said residents had been central to the campaign.
“Love in the Community has been a huge success. We have enjoyed welcoming volunteers, local businesses and the wider community to Seacroft Green.
“The residents are at the heart of everything we do, and we are thrilled to have established the home as a true community hub, where residents and the public can come together and support one another.
“This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see how much Love in the Community can grow next year.”
Seacroft Green provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
The care home is designed to support residents in leading active and fulfilling lives.
It also provides indoor and outdoor spaces for residents to relax and take part in recreational activities.
