Bengal Cottage Takeaway has solidified its status as a regional culinary powerhouse after being named Outstanding Takeaway of the Year 2026. The prestigious accolade was officially handed over on 1 September 2026 at a glamorous ceremony held at the Cedar Court Hotel in Huddersfield, presented as part of the Northern Curry Awards 2026.
The celebration comes hot on the heels of local infrastructure issues detailed in my recent East Leeds Feature Article on East Side Story. Despite the logistical disruption and temporary traffic light chaos just outside their front door on Great North Road, the beloved establishment has proven that exceptional flavour always wins through.
“Built by Belief”
Reflecting on an eight-year journey of rapid growth and relentless improvement, Bengal Cottage’s founder, Mo Miah, shared an emotional statement regarding the landmark victory:
“In 2019, I walked through the door of the ceremony as a 21-year-old nominee, the youngest in the room, looking at others wondering if we will ever be like them. Fast forward to 2026, we are still getting recognized, still hitting the numbers, still working relentlessly. It hasn’t been easy; the long shifts, the pressure, the constant work behind the scenes to make the food perfect and keep improving.”
Miah extended his gratitude to the staff and his business partner, emphasizing that the victory belongs to the community:
“A massive congratulations to our kitchen staff who sweat out long hours to ensure every dish travels well, and to our delivery drivers who face the chaotic roadworks daily. Most importantly, congratulations to the people of Micklefield and East Leeds. You have backed us from day one. Bengal Cottage. Born in Micklefield. Built by belief. Backed by our customers.”

Run by co-owners Mo and Javad Miah, his childhood friend, the takeaway is renowned across West Yorkshire for signature Bangladeshi and Indian fusion dishes.
