Local election results: Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, Cross Gates and Whinmoor and Gipton and Harehills

The Green Party gained Gipton and Harehills ward from Labour at the Leeds City Council local elections.

Mothin Ali (Green) received 3,070 votes, compared to former Labour councillor Arif Hussain’s 2,323.

In Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, Labour’s Asghar Khan comfortably held his seat and James Gibson also held Cross Gates and Whinmoor for Labour.

As a result of the local elections in Leeds which saw all 33 wards contested and one councillor elected per ward, the new make-up of the city council is as follows:

Labour [LAB]: 61 seats (unchanged)

Conservative [CON]: 14 seats (down four, including the resignation of Pudsey councilor Trish Smith last night.)

Liberal Democrats [LD]: 6 seats (unchanged)

Green [GR]: 5 seats (up two)

Morley Borough Independents [MBI]: 4 seats (unchanged)

Garforth and Swillington Independents Party [GSIP]: 3 seats (unchanged)

Social Democratic Party [SDP]: 3 seats (up one)

Independents: 3 seats (up one)

The turnout figure for the city was 34.24 per cent.
