Leeds 2023 is letting culture loose. It is a year-long initiative to celebrate the richness and diversity of culture in Leeds. There’s culture on every street corner, in every building, in every group, every business and in every organisation. Leeds 2023 aims to unlock it all and make it as accessible to as many people as possible.

Many events are coming up this year, and we would love to celebrate them all, especially those taking place in East Leeds. If you have an event or story to share, let us know.

Leeds 2023 is looking for volunteers to help let the culture loose. Please see below the call to action.

LEEDS – IT’S TIME TO HELP US LET CULTURE LOOSE BY JOINING OUR VOLUNTEER TEAM!

We are currently recruiting for volunteers to join the team to support us in our Year of Culture.

This is a completely flexible volunteer role, where once trained, Volunteers have the opportunity to book whichever shifts they like the look of, with no minimum or maximum commitment.

Shifts are across our exciting programme all neighbourhoods across Leeds, and volunteers could find themselves doing all sorts of exciting things supporting our cultural projects.

This could be welcoming, guiding and chatting to our audiences, or backstage helping us with rehearsals to name just a few.

To apply simply visit our volunteer page and fill in some personal details. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Applications are open until 15th March. Applications are made on our website here: Volunteer with Leeds 2023 | LEEDS 2023

Any questions or queries, feel free to reach out to the volunteer team on volunteer@leeds2023.co.uk

Will volunteers be trained, supervised, never left out of pocket?

Yes we cover travel and food expenses and have an induction and training programme also. All volunteers have a named point of contact or event lead for every shift.

Can they volunteer in their own neighbourhoods or an area of their choice?

Yes – volunteers choose whichever shifts they like and these shifts include all the locations – they are a mixture of city centre and out of city centre

Can you add a link to your social media, videos of previous events, website etc

Support independent community journalism!

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.

Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
