Many people are asking me,” where are you coming from?”
I come from where the light has been changed to darkness.
I come from where the green has been changed to black.
I come from where anti-values have become the values.
I come from where personal interest is more considered than public interest.
I come from where people are living on $1.90 day but the MPs are paid 21,000 monthly.
I come from where MPs are making laws to protect criminals.
I come from where people are crying, others are recording them or even laughing.
I come from where people lost the sense of humanity.
I come from where people are paid to kill other people.
I come from where people are forced to leave their home to stay in the jungle.
I come from where our mothers and sisters are raped in front their fathers and kids.
I come from where mothers are raped and having sticks introduced into their viginas.
I come from where groups of people killed and are being buried in the same grave.
I come from where Paradise has been changed to Hell.
I come from where someone called Simon Kimbangu has been arrested for 30 years for saying the truth and being against oppression.
I come from where someone died in 1951 but, to this day, his body is style intact.
I come from where someone who died in 1951, inspired the Mandombe Script in 1978.
I come from where someone has been arrested in the prison. At the same time, they found him in four different places and they brought them to the same place, all became one person.
I come from where a person died after his death, they opened up his body but found nothing inside.
I come from where hope has been changed to despair.
I come from where people are raising their voices:
Boma deputeeee, tika polier.
Kill MPs??? Long live police/ Leave the police alone, sing the population.
Mbongo, mbongo, mbongo!
Moyibi, moyibi, moyibi! Sing the population to the politicians.
Now the time has been arrived.
 Yes, yes, yes!
The time when human rights fighters will raise their voices to fight in truth and spirit.

Support independent community journalism!

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.

Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
