The Aberford Literature Festival is set for a major highlight this summer as BAFTA- winning presenter and author George Webster prepares to headline a special session for primary school children and families.

Known as the first CBeebies presenter with Down syndrome, Webster will be appearing on Saturday, 20th June 2026, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. The session, titled “Causing Chaos with Kids,” promises an afternoon of interactive storytelling, talks, and a deep dive into his series of bestselling children’s books.

A Jam-Packed Session for Young Readers

Organisers have revamped the festival’s Saturday morning schedule to create a high-energy environment for local families. Attendees can expect:

Author Talk & Q&A: George will discuss his children’s books, including his latest early reader series, George and the Mini Dragon. This is Me! & Why Not? Books are also to be discussed.

Sensory Theatre: The brand-new theatre company Once Upon a Treasured Time Sensory Play will perform an interactive drama written by local writer Simon Harrison.

Teddy Bear Picnic: Families are encouraged to bring their own teddy bear to participate in a “swimming lesson” with Dylan & Delia, the swimming teddy bears.

Festival Fun: The session also features a scavenger hunt for the festival mascot, Alfie, and various activity books.

Championing Inclusion in the Year of Reading

Webster’s visit coincides with the National Year of Reading 2026, a major initiative launched by the Department of Education and the National Literacy Trust to boost child literacy and encourage reading for pleasure.

As an ambassador for Mencap and a celebrated advocate for disability representation, Webster’s presence at the festival highlights the importance of inclusive literature. His books, co-authored with Claire Taylor and illustrated by Tim Budgen, are renowned for celebrating what makes every child unique.
