Leeds Animation Workshop is thrilled to invite you to a series of free animation-making sessions – starting Thursday, 29th June, 10.30-4.30 pm, and running through the summer and early Autumn.

Leeds Animation Workshop is a women’s collective that has been based in Harehills for over 40 years. As part of Leeds 2023 Year of Culture, Leeds Animation Workshop can now offer the chance to learn about animation, for free, in a series of workshops in the fantastic Thackray Museum of Medicine.

In addition to this, there will be screening sessions, when experienced animators from around Yorkshire will show their work, talk about it and answer questions.
On the first day, you will create your own very short piece of animation.
By the end of the summer, you will have made several animated films, watched many more, and met and talked to professional animators – and you’ll know quite a bit about animation.
You will also have learned something new, found different ways to express yourself, met new people, felt inspired, and had lots of fun.

Leeds Animation Workshop says:
“If you can, stay for the whole series of workshops – but if you need to be flexible with hours or days, that’s fine too – just let us know.”

Everyone 15+ is welcome. All materials provided.
Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Bring your own packed lunch, or drop into the Thackray Museum’s café, which caters for most diets.

BOOK HERE through Eventbrite – https://linktr.ee/leedsanimationworkshop
or
Contact Leeds Animation Workshop directly:

or you can phone: 0113 8267310 if you don’t have internet access

The sessions are in The Core Community space inside the Thackray Museum of Medicine.

And there’s more: A ray of Light Night comes to Harehills
The final event of this year’s ANIMATED HAREHILLS project will be an evening of projections, screenings, exhibitions, refreshments and more – forming part of Light Night Leeds, but for the first time ever in Harehills!
No need to book for this, but hopefully, participants in ANIMATED HAREHILLS will come and see some of their own animation projected in public!

Support independent community journalism!

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.

Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
