A man was hospitalised with a serious leg injury following a violent pub fight on Main Street in Garforth, Leeds.

Emergency services rushed to the scene outside the Newmarket Inn at approximately 9:01 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026, following reports of an ongoing brawl between two men.

Main Street Cornered Off

Upon arrival, West Yorkshire Police officers discovered the victim on the pavement suffering from a severe, debilitating injury to his leg. Paramedics and emergency crews treated the man at the scene before rushing him to a local hospital for urgent care. Witnesses on social media described the aftermath as chaotic, noting that the victim appeared completely unable to move.

A significant police cordon was quickly erected outside the pub, completely blocking off sections of Main Street. Traffic diversions remained in place late into Saturday night while forensic teams and investigations examine the scene.

Suspect Arrested and Bailed

A spokesman for the West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. The suspect has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The police are treating this as an isolated incident between individuals known to each other, and there is no ongoing risk to the wider Garforth community.

Appeal for Witnesses

Detectives are currently reviewing local CCTV footage and mobile phone videos circulating on local community groups. Anyone who witnessed the fight outside the Newmarket Inn or has dashcam footage from Main Street around 9:00 pm on Saturday is strongly urged to contact West Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or utilising the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website: https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/
