A 100-year-old resident at a care home in Seacroft as marked her birthday by giving advice for leading a long and happy life.
Rosalinde Sidman, who lives at Care UK’s Seacroft Grange on The Green, celebrated her special milestone with balloons, banners and a delicious birthday cake.
She was thrilled to be surrounded by family, residents and team members as they came together to surprise her on her momentous day – and she even passed on some of her wisdom.
When asked for her secret to living a long and rewarding life, Rosalinde said: “A healthy lifestyle! Never smoke or drink and keep your mind sharp with reading and crosswords.”
Rosalinde, known as Ros, was born and grew up in Ealing before moving to live with her relatives in Leeds when the second world war broke out.
During Ros’s youth, she worked many years as an accounts and office manager for a cleaning, contractors and decorating company.
Ros met her future husband, Roland, at a family event. It was love at first sight and the pair swiftly tied the knot in July 1948. During their marriage, the pair raised two children, Bernard and Corinne, who went on to welcome two grandchildren into the family.
In her spare time, Ros loves dancing and listening to music, even frequently playing the piano. She also has a love for travel and, along with Roland, embarked on many cruises around the world, visiting places like Hawaii, Florida, Mexico and the Mediterranean.
Eve Moran, Home Manager at Seacroft Grange, said: “We love to throw a party for special occasions here, and Ros’s 100th birthday certainly called for a huge celebration!
“It was wonderful to see Ros surrounded by all her loved ones to mark such an incredible milestone. The team worked tirelessly to make sure her day was one to remember, and we would like to thank everyone who came along .”
