Detectives have moved in to arrest six men this week as part of a significant investigation into historical child sexual exploitation across East Leeds.

The coordinated operation, which involved a series of dawn raids, targeted individuals suspected of involvement in a string of non-recent offences reported in the Micklefield, Garforth, and Kippax areas.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the suspects, aged between 34 and 38, were detained at various addresses across the Leeds District and as far afield as Birmingham.

The investigation centres on a period between 2007 and 2012, involving five female victims who were children at the time of the alleged incidents.

Serious Allegations

The men were taken into custody on suspicion of a range of grave offences. These included the rape of a girl under the age of 13, the rape of girls aged between 13 and 15, and the intentional arrangement of travel for the purpose of exploitation.

Following lengthy interviews, all six men have been released on Conditional Bail while the West Yorkshire Police Safeguarding Team continues to compile evidence.

“Abhorrent Crimes”

Detective Superintendent Sarah Lambert, who is leading the investigation for the Leeds District, issued a stern statement following arrests, describing the alleged offences as “abhorrent” and emphasized that protecting children remains a top priority.

“These arrests are the result of a meticulous, pre-planned operation,” Det Supt Lambert said. “We are dealing with allegations of abuse that have a profound and lasting impact on victims. Our priority is ensuring that those who target the vulnerable are held accountable, regardless of how much time has passed.”

The senior officer also issued a plea to the wider community, urging any other potential victims or witnesses to find the courage to speak out.

“We know how difficult it is to come forward, but I want to reassure the public that we have specialist officers ready to listen. You will be supported every step of the way.”

Community Reassurance

Local councillors in Garforth and Kippax have acknowledged the arrests, noting that while the news is distressing, it demonstrates a “robust approach” to historical safeguarding issues in the region.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service as the investigation moves into its next phase.
