Community groups in Harehills and Gipton have been invited to submit applications for new funding as part of the Leeds 2023 Year of Culture Celebrations.

A small grant of up to £500 is being offered for local organisations that are interested in taking part in the celebrations. The aim is to open up more opportunities for people across the city to celebrate culture through various events.

As part of Leeds 2023, there will be community events happening in every ward across Leeds in the summer. This includes a community event at the Compton Centre and the old Fire Station on July 8th.

Local groups interested in putting on an exhibition or display at the event can apply for funding.

The grant will cover the cost of the event, materials, and expenses.

Kelly Hamilton is the Gipton and Harehills neighbourhood host. She said: “This day of celebration will be an eclectic mix of showstopping performances, creative activity, art exhibition and cultural celebration.

“We want to put on full display the amazing talent that lives in our very own community and celebrate the work, ingenuity and passion of our fellow residents. It will be a wonderful opportunity for people in Gipton and Harehills to come together for a heart-warming day of fun!”

If you are interested in taking part in the event, you can apply for a small sum of money to cover your expenses.

Kelly added: “Whether you are an individual or a group, and you would like to perform, host a workshop, have a stall or display your art – we are open to all of it. Sport, wellness, music, dance, food, arts and crafts, gardening – let your imagination flow!”

The deadline for applications is March 6th.
