Leeds 2023 is letting culture loose. It is a year-long initiative to celebrate the richness and diversity of culture in Leeds. There’s culture on every street corner, in every building, in every group, every business and in every organisation. Leeds 2023 aims to unlock it all and make it as accessible to as many people as possible.

Many events are coming up this year, and we would love to celebrate them all, but especially those taking place in East Leeds. If you have an event or story to share, let us know.

Leeds 2023, alongside the National Youth Theatre and Leeds Playhouse, are offering a fantastic opportunity to get involved with a free acting course and performance.

Develop your acting skills and perform with LEEDS 2023, the National Youth Theatre and Leeds Playhouse to raise awareness about the climate crisis!

Do you love the buzz of performing? Do you believe theatre can empower people to build a better society?

We’ve partnered with theNational Youth TheatreLeeds Playhouseand Compass Collective to offer a free ten-day acting course for young people across Leeds and West Yorkshire who love acting and performance. Following the course, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a new, large-scale immersive performance exploring themes of climate change and migration.

This is an exciting opportunity to get free professional training and rehearsal experience at one of the UK’s leading theatres, join an internationally renowned company of young performers, and be a major part of LEEDS 2023 Year of Culture. You don’t need prior acting experience; this is all about building your confidence and taking you one step closer towards your passion.

Who can apply?
