The East Leeds Project is excited to share details of its packed summer programme as it celebrates its first five years of helping to make good things happen in East Leeds and beyond. Here’s the project’s summer report:
We’d really like to thank everyone – artists, participants, funders, partners, visitors and others – who’ve helped us make it this far!
We were on the road in May at the University of Leeds’ Be Curious festival and at City Square during UKREiiF real estate forum. Thank you to every one of the over 600 people who visited Moon Palace across these events! Thanks also to our brilliant team who worked hard as usual to welcome so many people and make these events a success, and to the University and Leeds City Council for funding and support. If you’re interested in partnering us on a future Moon Palace event, please get in touch.
Moon Palace is by Heather Peak and Ivan Morison. It is an East Leeds Project and LEEDS 2023 Co-production and is commissioned by Foxglove and LEEDS 2023 for Smeaton300.

Healthy Holidays is coming!
We’re excited to be back at Nowell Mount Community Centre in Harehills for four weeks of summer fun starting Tuesday 30 July. These activities are free to access for local children and young people aged 5-16 years and qualifying for free school meals.
Thanks to Leeds Community Foundation and Bellbrooke GP Surgery for their continued support of this programme.
Save the Date for Heritage Open Days
Join us for a FREE event on 10 and 11 September as we celebrate a people’s history of the much-loved Fearnville Leisure Centre which is soon to make way for a new Wellbeing centre for East Leeds (more on that below). Listen to recordings of Centre users sharing their memories, contribute your own, and make a print with artist Ellen Burroughs to take home. More info here.
Update: Fearnville Leisure Centre
We were pleased to hear that this new Centre for East Leeds has gained planning permission. Work will start early next year and last for around 18 months. As the old Leisure Centre where we are currently based will be demolished when the new Centre opens, we’re actively working with Leeds City Council towards securing a new and more accessible local space where we can deliver on our ambition to create the first ever makerspace in East Leeds. Updates to follow.
