Fun for Kids and Adults This February

East Leeds is home to many fantastic local organisations offering various opportunities for children this February and beyond. From sports clubs to music classes, there is something for everyone. These organisations are dedicated to providing children with the chance to learn new skills, make friends, and have fun in a safe and secure environment. With a wide range of activities available, there is something to suit all interests and abilities. Children can gain valuable experiences and essential life skills by getting involved.

Seasons, St Luke’s Community Hall

Charlotte Ellis has told us about her Swarcliffe based 0 to 5 years group designed to emphasise nature and sensory play. These events are currently indoors; however, they are looking to develop outdoors too. This all takes place at St Luke’s Community Hall.

I am an early years educator and mum of 4 who specialises in the benefits of nature play to holistic development. I promote parental wellbeing, offer sensory experiences, nature crafts and learning through play to children and families in the local community.

A family nature craft session for valentines day on 13th Feb 10.30am-12pm for children primary school aged £10 per family

0-5 stay and play valentines day nature play and sensory session £5 per child 14th Feb 1pm-2pm

Puffin pottery session Monday 6th Feb 10am-11am £18 per child price includes winter blooms seasons session plus a piece of pottery to put hand or footprint on or paint for valentines as a keepsake

Thackray Museum of Medicine Story and Rhyme Time Session and Harehills Mondays

The Thackray Museum of Medicine is fantastic on the doorstep of Harehills. Open in the 90s to provide a history of medicine and health, it has been educating and entertaining the young and the old for decades. It was closed for a while for refurbishment but reopened in May 2021 and, since then, has been going from strength to strength.

Every Monday, at 10am, during Term time, the Thackray Museum of Medicine offers a Story and Rhyme Time session for babies and pre-walkers. This is free for Harehills residents as part of the Harehills Monday offer.

Harehills Monday is a fantastic initiative by the Thackray Museum of Medicine to give the people who live and work in Harehills free entry into the museum. It is a chance to visit all the exhibits, including a Victorian Street, the array of medical technology through the ages, and the vast collection of medicine jars. Harehills Mondays aren’t just for little ones. If you live and work in Harehills, it is entirely free to access the museum on Mondays, no matter your age.

ChapelFM All-Night Readathon

Chapel FM hosts its 4th Readathon, As part of Leeds Literature Festival 2023.

Come and help read an entire book out loud over one night in the beautiful Chapel FM radio theatre. Watch the dawn come up in the stained glass windows and have breakfast with us to celebrate. Stay the whole night or just part of it.

Bird Box Making Day, Killingbeck Fields

Yorkshire Wild Lift trust are holding a Bird Box Making Day on Killingbeck Fields on the 16th February, tickets are £2, but it covers the cost of materials.

Join us at Killingbeck Fields to get hands-on building a bird box!
Whether you choose to take your brilliant bird box home with you as a gift for the birds in your own garden or donate it to the nature reserve, your creation will be a true palace for nesting birds.
You’ll also have the chance to create a bird banquet by foraging some natural materials to create a bird feeder.
Tickets are £2 and help to cover the cost of materials.
