Members of Harehills-based CATCH Leeds gathered with young volunteers, friends, and family to celebrate an extraordinary woman: Jean Clennell.

Jean’s name has been engraved on the stunning Ribbons sculpture at Quarry Hill, honoring her as one of Leeds’ most inspiring women.

Jean’s legacy is remarkable. As the former deputy head of Roundhay High School, her dedication to supporting children and young people didn’t end with retirement.

Instead, she continues to give her time and energy to countless causes, including the Rotary Club of Roundhay and with CATCH.

From baking delicious treats, mentoring children, arranging trips, and helping with our weekly café shopping to supporting farm duties, delivering food parcels, and welcoming new families to Leeds, Jean’s kindness and commitment to her community are boundless.

She is the heart and soul of generosity, and we are so proud to have her as part of the CATCH family. Her name on Ribbons is a perfect reflection of the impact she has made on so many lives and a well-deserved tribute to her selfless contributions.

CATCH is passionate about improving opportunities for the community and young people.

Support independent community journalism!

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.

Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
