A massive three million pound expansion of an industrial estate in Seacroft is set to boost local employment. The project will also raise vital cash for the council.

Seventeen new light industrial units are planned for Limewood Park. This development will create much-needed extra space for businesses on the Limewood Road estate.

Leeds City Council is currently looking for a contractor to build the scheme. The chosen builder will also deliver improvements to green spaces at the estate.

A council report explained that there is a shortage of light industrial units across the Leeds area. It noted that the market has failed to deliver units of this size.

Because of this, the project is necessary to boost employment. The new units are designed to attract small and medium-sized enterprises to the area.

The delivery of these new units sits at the heart of the council’s revenue growth strategy. The project will generate income for the council while increasing local job opportunities.

Local authorities use a system of capital financing called Prudential Borrowing. This specific borrowing system will fund the entire Seacroft scheme.

The plans have already seen community involvement. Around 200 people took part in a public consultation on the proposal last summer.

A tender has now been published to find a contractor for the works. The contract is expected to start in April next year.

The building work should take exactly one year to complete. Residents can expect the entire project to finish 12 months after the start date.
