Local nature spot Gledhow Valley Woods is having a Green Fair in July with a full road closure so families can enjoy the woods free of any traffic and extra pollution.
The Green Fair will take place on Sunday 14 July, and organisers says it will be a unique opportunity for the local community to come together to enjoy Gledhow Valley Woods without the noise, pollution and safety concerns associated with the busy Gledhow Valley Road.
The valley will be traffic free from 11am to 4pm, allowing everyone to safely enjoy the peace and quiet of the meadows, woods, beck and lake.

Activities will include entertainment, stalls and tasty food – but organisers are appealing for people to help make the event happen. They are looking for volunteers to:
- Help set up the event (from 8.30am onwards)
- Staff road closure points, working with traffic management staff
- Staff the event hub (lost kids, information point, water, etc.)
- Help set up and staff the refreshment stall
- Help run conservation activities to showcase the work of FGVW
- Help run kids play activities
- Support the opening of Beck Pasture and Gipton Spa Bath House
- Help pack away at the end of the day (from 4pm onwards).
A spokesperson said: “Any support you can give will be very much appreciated.”

Activities on the day
Activities planned for the day, which is free to attend, include an urban flower and produce show, bike rides, free bike repairs, a treasure hunt for children, nature walks, street games, a pop-up café and lots of community stalls.
There will be a special opening of the Gipton Spa, Bath House and Beck Pasture wildflower meadow and there will be lots of entertainment throughout the day including a community choir, steel pans and performances by Balbir Singh Dance Company.
There will also be information on potential future plans for the Gledhow Valley and an opportunity for local people to have their say.
The Green Fair is being organised by a partnership group of long-established community groups, including the Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods, CANplan, C A Spaces, Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group, Balbir Singh Dance Company and Roundhay Environmental Action Project.
