Hi! My name is Ezra and I’m the Community Co-Producer at Thackray Museum of Medicine in Harehills. My role is to work with local communities on our exhibitions and events programme, as well as to manage our free community spaces.
We are hosting a free Community Late Event from 5pm to 9pm on Saturday 21st September. The evening will be a celebration of East Leeds, featuring amazing artists and organisations from Harehills and beyond.
The evening is jam-packed with things for visitors to see and do; the museum will be brought to life with music, performance, crafts, and activities. There will also be an opportunity for people to find out more about local history, and some of the groups and charities working in the local area. We’ll be serving free food and non-alcoholic drinks from local providers too!
Come and discover the stories of medicine that the museum tells – some of them might surprise you. We also have two new exhibitions to view.
Projecting Grief is a photographic exhibition featuring four new portraits of people from the local area who use a creative practice to process the loss of someone close to them.
You Choose is our exciting family-friendly exhibition that includes displays created by local community groups. It’s been really special to work with people from East Leeds on both of these projects, and we can’t wait to share their stories with everyone who visits the museum.
The museum has been at its site next to St James’s hospital since the 1990s, but it’s only the last couple of years that Thackray has started doing late events. This event builds on the fantastic legacy of last year’s Culture Club Lates run in collaboration with Sable Studio. We’re really excited that Sable will be returning to DJ this event. It will be alcohol-free , so perfect to younger people, families, and adults.
There’s so much creativity and talent to celebrate in East Leeds, and we’re excited to be able to showcase just a small proportion of that.
Everyone is welcome to come along for what’s already shaping up to be a fun and vibrant evening. We are so proud to be part of this amazing community, and we want to continue to do more with and for you. We hope that we’ll be able to keep doing these s in the future.
For anyone who has experienced one of esustainable’s fashion shows and costumes, you can help create one on the night and meet the inspirational designer herself
Also, did you know that Thackray is always free to visit on a Monday daytime for residents of Harehills, Gipton and Burmantofts?
Free tickets are available to book now at https://thackraymuseum.co.uk/event/thackray-lates-community-late/, and will also be available on the door on the evening. If you have any questions about the event, or getting involved in future events at Thackray, drop me an email at ezra.kingston@thackraymuseum.org.
