As we head into some more sizzling summer weather, here’s some ideas to keep you hydrated
The first up is Bel’s Elderflower Cordial, based on a delicious Woodland Trust recipe.
Elderflowers are in bloom right now and it’s the perfect time to pick them.

How to make:
- It’s best to shake the blossom to release any bugs, then take bloom when fresh, not when ready to fall off by then past its best.
- You need at least 20 good stems, and you need to nip just the flower, not the stem. I used the Woodland Trust recipe on Google as it doesn’t need citric acid.
- You require at least one l pints worth of petals pressed down in a jug.
- Put in a pan and cover in water with lemon zest and simmer for 30 mins. Then cool and strain into a jug with a sieve and muslin cloth to remove flower heads.
- Add 350g sugar and the juice of half a lemon for every 500ml of liquid and then simmer till sugar is completely dissolved.
- Cool and place in a sterile bottle. Dilute to taste and serve chilled. Delicious.

Keep Hydrated, by Natalie
These tasty water infused drinks are very easy to make. I’ve been experimenting with them ever since I was introduced to the wonders of these super healthy, affordable beverages.
Not a fan of plain water? Here’s how to jazz it up and still keep hydrated:
- Recycle a glass water bottle and fill it with water
- Try adding one of the following:
- A slice of lemon or lime
- A sprig of fresh lemon balm, rosemary or mint
- Peeled and diced root ginger
- A thin slice of fresh fennel
Refrigerate for at least an hour
This is a great way to inspire children to drink more water and less juice or fizzy drinks.
Enjoy
