JohnA council report has declared Osmondthorpe One Stop Centre surplus to requirements and has authorised the demolition of the building.
The building was built around the 1900’s and used as a school up until around the 1990’s when it was converted into a One Stop Centre.
Following demolition, the site will be left with a hardcore layer. The intention is to then
redevelop the site for housing growth.
The report states: “The demolition of the Osmondthorpe OSC will mitigate the ongoing operational costs of holding the property, including security and maintenance costs, whilst also reducing the risk of anti-social behaviour which disused buildings can often attract.
“It is acknowledged that re-use of the building would be preferable to demolition, following an options appraisal process there are no alternative uses identified and will help to the disposal of the main building, however, the demolition will be undertaken in a way which maximises the amount of material which is recycled for new uses.”
The report said that local residents would kept updated with any disruption that may occur during the demolition process.
