Mountains of perfectly good food, camping gear, and other items will be abandoned at this year’s Leeds Festival and volunteers are being invited to salvage it before it’s destroyed.
On bank holiday Monday 25 August and Tuesday 26 August, groups are heading to the festival site to collect anything left behind that could be reused or donated to foodbanks, homeless charities or second-hand shops. Without intervention, much of it will simply be incinerated.
The call for volunteers is open to anyone who wants to help reduce waste and get much-needed supplies into the hands of people who need them.
Salvage is held each year at Bramham Park, near Wetherby in West Yorkshire.
“There are unbelievable amounts of food and other worthwhile camping stuff left behind that you can just pick up for free,” organisers said. “It could really help anyone – foodbank, homeless charity, charity shop and stop it simply being incinerated.”
Volunteers can join an existing group effort via an umbrella application or go independently.
Those interested in joining with others can fill out a quick form and will be sent everything they need to take part:

With tonnes of items set to go to waste, this is a unique opportunity to make a real difference diverting usable goods to people in crisis, while helping clean up the site.
