The upgrade of ageing Fearnville Leisure Centre has moved a step closer to reality after a building contractor was appointed to carry out the work.
An unnamed building firm had successfully tendered for the work, which will include a new swimming pool and gym, alongside an all-weather pitch and soft play area and cafe.
Work could start in Spring 2026, subject to costings being worked on with the contractor.
Council chiefs say the work is essential as hundreds of new homes are being built as a result of the East Leeds Extension.
The upgrade will include tree-planting and landscaping.
