Black Nature In Residence is a project which aims to reconnect communities with nature, help remove some of the barriers which prevent people of colour from visiting the countryside, and encourage more people of colour to get involved in rural projects.
identity on tyne and five Northern National Parks are delighted to announce the next phase of The Black Nature in Residence Programme 2:0, which will consist of five writing/ creative residences in each of the parks; Northumberland, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and the Lake District National Parks.

With the support from Arts Council England, this Black-led programme is an exciting opportunity for creatives of the Global Majority within the Northern regions to be in residence within nature for one year. Â
The Black Nature in Residence programme is an opportunity for People of the Global Majority(PGM) creatives of any discipline to spend time within their chosen park area to explore their relationship with the British countryside, engaging with community and with the National Park.
Each residency will be self-designed allowing creatives to build closers links between themselves, the National Park and the diverse communities they serve. We welcome creatives who are inspiring and inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the North and would appreciate the time and space to respond authentically to the protected nature of these National Parks.
The programming is expanding this year and would love to showcase your ideas, work and creations.

Support independent community journalism!
East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.
Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.
East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.
Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.
Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
