An East Leeds primary school has received glowing praise from Ofsted inspectors, who highlighted its exceptional standards of attendance and behaviour.

Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School, on Halton Moor Avenue in Wykebeck, achieved an ‘Exceptional’ rating for attendance and behaviour following an inspection on September 9.

The school also performed strongly across most other areas, receiving a ‘Strong standard’ rating in five of the six remaining categories.

These included achievement, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing.

Inspectors were particularly impressed by the school’s commitment to ensuring children attend regularly and receive the support they need to succeed.

They praised staff for working closely with families and carefully monitoring attendance to identify pupils who may need additional help.

The report stated: “Behaviour is exemplary. Leaders embed a culture of high expectations for behaviour through clear routines, which pupils understand and follow consistently.”

Inspectors also highlighted the school’s welcoming atmosphere, where children are encouraged to treat one another with kindness and respect.

The school’s Catholic values, centred around the principle of ‘one body, many parts’, were recognised for helping create a caring and inclusive environment.

According to the report, pupils take pride in their work, listen carefully to others and confidently discuss what they are learning.

Children from disadvantaged backgrounds were also found to be making very good progress, with staff adapting lessons to meet different learning needs.

Inspectors praised the school’s approach to inclusion, particularly its efforts to ensure children with special educational needs and disabilities can fully participate in lessons and school activities.

Emotional wellbeing was another area highlighted in the report.

Staff were praised for providing personalised support, while children have opportunities throughout the school day to discuss their feelings and raise concerns.

Inspectors found that the systems for helping pupils share their worries were highly effective and used daily.

The school’s leadership team also received recognition for its clear vision and commitment to creating a supportive school community.

However, inspectors identified one area for further improvement.

Early years provision received an ‘Expected standard’ rating, with the school encouraged to strengthen its curriculum by setting out clearer, smaller steps in children’s learning.

Despite this recommendation, the findings represent a positive result for Corpus Christi, which was previously rated ‘Good’ under Ofsted’s former inspection system in 2022.

The latest report recognises the school’s strong academic standards, inclusive approach and commitment to helping children feel supported throughout their education.
