A huge tree has come crashing down on Sandway, smashing into a parked car and hitting the side of a nearby house during the latest spell of wild, wet and blustery weather sweeping across Leeds.

Residents said they heard a heavy crack followed by a deep thud as the tree gave way in the early evening, leaving debris across the pavement and branches hanging over fences and brickwork. The fallen trunk landed squarely across the vehicle before striking the front of the house, leaving visible damage.

People living on the street described the shock of seeing such a large tree brought down so suddenly. Some had been watching the worsening weather throughout the day and said the winds had been growing steadily stronger.

No injuries have been reported, though neighbours said it was lucky no one was walking past at the time. The area has since been cordoned off as assessments continue and arrangements are made to remove the tree safely.

The incident comes as Leeds faces another spell of heavy rain and strong winds, with forecasters warning of further disruption across parts of the city.
