Cross Gates is getting ready for a bright burst of colour and community spirit this February as the area’s first ever lantern parade prepares to take over Manston Park. The event aims to bring families and neighbours together for a creative, light filled walk right in the heart of east Leeds.

The parade will take place on 22 February, beginning with a gathering at the Barnbow pub on Austhorpe Road before setting off at around 5:30pm. The walk will wind through Manston Park and is expected to finish at 7pm. People of all ages are invited to take part, carrying handmade lanterns lit with LED lights.

Organisers have been running lantern making workshops in the lead up to the event, helping residents craft their creations. They are also appealing for volunteers to support the parade. Roles include helping with gazebos, managing chairs and assisting marshals along the route. Anyone interested has been encouraged to get in touch via the event’s volunteer email.

This first of its kind celebration in Cross Gates has been created to bring people together, offer a creative activity for families and brighten up the winter evening with a warm, shared experience.
