The 21st century is increasingly reliant on software and digital skills, and 100% Digital Leeds is working hard to make sure everyone has access to these skills.

As part of the Leeds 2023 initiative to provide inspiring events during Leeds Year of Culture, 100% Digital Leeds has teamed up with Leeds 2023 to put on a series of free digital skills workshops throughout Leeds. These workshops will use free creative software to help attendees learn the basics of the software, allowing them to continue learning and developing their skills in their own time.

This is an important step towards making Leeds the most digitally inclusive city and will make sure that everyone has access to the digital skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

We wanted to share with you a selection of the workshops that have events in East Leeds:

Sound Editing with Audacity (podcast and recording software)

Led by BBC Radio Leeds producer Dan Purvis, and will take you through all the basics of the software. Starting a project, adding sounds, simple editing, adding effects and exporting your work. I highly recommend the software. I used it for the experiment with the Harehills Good News Advent Calendar podcasts early in December.

Image Editing with GoDaddyStudio

Led by artists and marketing genius Lydia Cottrell, the workshop will take you through the basics of the software, from opening a project and adding images to simple editing, adding effects and exporting your work.

Video Editing with DaVinci Resolve

Led by Lee Robinson, and will take you through the basics of opening a project, adding video clips, simple editing, adding effects and exporting your work.

Creative Livestreaming with OBS

Led by Ora Ataguba and Balie Ali from Sable Radio, the workshop will provide a step-by-step guide on how to use OBS, from opening a project to adding different scenes and streaming to the platform of your choice.

Support independent community journalism!

East Side Story covers the people, places and stories in Leeds that are too often overlooked. While national headlines chase conflict and clickbait, we focus on real communities and the issues shaping daily life in East Leeds.

Divisive content, AI noise and online rumours spread faster than ever. At the same time, many mainstream outlets are stretched and rarely spotlight the community organisations and local champions who deserve recognition.

East Side Story was created to change that. We answer only to our readers. We have no corporate owners or billionaire funders. Our journalists report freely, ask difficult questions and hold power to account.

Your support helps us keep this work going. Monthly contributions make the biggest impact because they allow us to invest in deeper reporting and fearless local journalism.

Supporters also receive exclusive updates, behind the scenes insights and other benefits as a thank you for keeping independent journalism alive.
