Janine GriffithsA new parish covering Swarcliffe and Whinmoor has held its first service following the reopening of St Luke’s Swarcliffe.
The Parish of Swarcliffe and Whinmoor held the service earlier this month.
It was led by the Revd Hannah Jones, vicar in the parish.
The service took place at the recently reopened St Luke’s Swarcliffe community church.
St Luke’s had not been used as a church for 15 years before reopening.
The parish is also planning to develop links with the wider community, and aims to forge new relationships with six schools in the area.
This will begin with work involving Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move to secondary school.
A monthly worship session is also planned at St Paul’s School Church in Whinmoor.
The new parish has been funded through the Diocese of Leeds’ Diocesan Investment Programme and its Barnabas work.
The Diocese said the parish will serve existing residents and people moving into new homes being built in the area.
